Tag it On - Bed of Roses

The hurricane has gone. Today the electricity came back on after being off for almost 96 hours. After I cleaned out both the chest freezer and the refrigerator and did various other things to clean up the house from its "camping-like" experience, I finally had time to check email and blog challenges.

This tag is for Tag it On, where Bed of Roses is the theme.

I started with a cereal box on which I used gesso and bits and pieces of vintage images. The rose is stamped onto acetate with brown StaZon and attached to the tag.

I just noticed that Metal is supposed to be a part of the tag. I have added a metal button. See the revised tag below.

No Electricity - no running water

I am at Starbucks to leave this quick note. The hurricane knocked out our electricity. Our well works only with electricity. We are using oil lamps at night. We are thankful that the weather is very mild and dry. I hope to be back in operation by Friday. I had to throw away many, many things from my freezer and my refrigerator.. :-(

Artekarten - Mirror Image

Art Cards Challenge is to use the mirror image technique. Several links were given to go by. I used the glossy cardstock, acetate, StaZon ink pad and various ink pads for color.

I thought I wouldn't have time for art today since I have house guests coming, but a little time opened up We are hoping the hurricane doesn't hit our area, especially since the house guests are coming by air.

Blog Challenge Garden & TIO & Pecreativ

For Blog Challenge Garden (Tag Tuesday) the theme this week is the letter A. My A stands for automobile.  For Tag it On the challenge is Time to make a Getaway. I travel mostly by automobile.

My tag is a paper collage using old postcards and maps. The letter A is stamped in clear ink with a stamp from Stamp Francisco and embossed in copper embossing powder.

After looking at the map in today's paper, I discovered the epicenter of the earthquake yesterday was 23 straight miles from our house. No wonder everything was shaking so badly. I've looked from attic to crawl space and inside and out and have found no damage.

Thursday Editing:
Irmi says that this also qualifies for Pecreativ Challenge.

EARTHQUAKE!!!

What a week we've had so far! Leak in the roof. Storm on Sunday took out our internet service. Technician couldn't come till today. He got it fixed and both computer back in operation. We ate lunch and started to try to catch up on emails, when WHAM!!! The whole house began to shake like a washing machine with an off-balance load. And it went on and on and on. My dh and I raced all over the house trying to find what was causing our house to go into demolition mode. We searched from upper attic, lower attic, first and second floors, all AC units. Nothing. Finally it stopped. A neighbor called to see if we had felt anything. I was so glad to hear that it was not my house going rogue. When I quit shaking I'll try to do a little art to post tomorrow.

Colorful Gift from Coleen

Today was a banner day! I received in the mail a packet of decorative paper napkins from Coleen in the Ukraine. I don't know which is my favorite. There are 2 with birds, many with flowers, and even 3 that are fan-shaped when folded. Such beautiful napkins. Thanks, Coleen.

SoArtful

This is my entry for the SoArtful Challenges. The black and white image of the lady in waiting was given. I have colored her digitally. The rust colored background is one that Kristin has offered as a freebie. The stairs background is a freebie from Rian. Please visit Kristin's and Rian's blogs to see their lovely work.

Art Cards - Bleach!

For the Art Cards challenge this week we are provided with the theme: bleach. I have made two backgrounds using the method described in the link on the Art Cards website.

The first card uses a cutout part of a watercolor I did the other night. I have adhered it to the background to be used for a card.

The second card uses one of my watercolor pictures of my Li'l Redhead, who was based on my red-haired granddaughter.

Play Date Cafe

Here is my very simple card for the Playdate Cafe challenge of navy, bubble gum, and lime colors. I enjoyed playing with my punches.

All of my adhering was made using the 3M Advanced Glider, which I got online last year. It is pink and some of the sales go to the Susan G. Kormen for the Cure cause. The pink one can be ordered till the end of 2011, I think. I just ordered refill tapes yesterday at 8 a.m. Today the doorbell rang at 10:30 a.m.. There were my tapes. Is that service or what?!!!  I got them from framingsupplies.com.

Edit:
I have added another card. I painted the flower last night. The green in both cards is Post-it Notes.

Hats! - the 3 Muses Challenge

Hats is the theme for the Three Muses Challenge this week. This is a photo of my mother (or my grandmother). I would really appreciate it if someone knowledgeable about vintage styles would tell me about what year this type of hat was worn. That way I could maybe figure out who it is in my picture.

I also have a picture of Mrs. Sallie Rhea, an ancestor on my father's side. Her hat looks like a fruit bowl.

Tag it On - Child's Play

For my entry to Tag it On (Child's Play), I stamped the white cardstock with the stamp of a child patching up her bear. I think it may be Stampin' Up but there are no readable markings. I colored her and the background with Prismacolor pencils blended with a paper stump dipped in odorless mineral spirits. The children in the foreground came from Dover Publications.

Fun with ATCs - Mother Earth

This is my entry for Fun with ATCs - Mother Earth. My background paper is by Daisy D's. I stamped the Stampendous butterfly on the paper and then colored it with distress inks. The Stampinback wild flower stamp is done on a scrap of paper inked with alcohol inks. I have stamped Love One Another on that. If we all did just that, love one, another meaning we wish the best for the other person, the earth would be a happier place.

I am adding a small watercolor I did a while back, cut down to an ATC size. It was almost the right size to begin with.

Tag Tuesday - Vintage Photo

This is my tag I have made for Tag Tuesday - vintage photo. The photo is of my great-great-grandmother. I don't know why they never smiled in pictures, except I've heard that taking a picture might mean sitting perfectly still for several minutes.

Rainbow Lady's - Stamp It!

This is for Rainbow Lady's challenge where the theme is: Stamp it.

I have used a new stamp I got from Michael's for $1.49 and gold embossing powder. The flower is by Caroline, a freebie template she allowed us to use for a challenge in July.

Tag it On - It's a Horse's Life

Here is my entry for Tag it On using a horse. I stamped my Bazzill cardstock with a hand-carved stamp and embossed it with Moonglow's Midnight Copper/Obsidian embossing powder. The cowboy on the horse is one of Karen's freebies at Graphics Fairy.

TMTA - circles

My ATC for the challenge Think Monday Think ATCs (circles) was made on deep teal cardstock. The circles were made with gesso. The circular center of the flower is a brad through a circular piece of metal cut from a Pepsi can and dyed with alcohol inks. The gesso circles have been tinted with watercolors.

So Artful - 1960s

The early part of the 60s was spent in Houston, where my dh was in grad school. This is me in the front of our duplex apartment. Note the hat and gloves! SoArtful challenges us to think back to the 1960s this week. It was a happy time for me. I think it may have been stressful for my husband. We had only one child at this time.

This is a black and white photo that I have tried to add some color to. For the life of me I can't recall that dress with the floppy ruffles. I do recall the flower bed of zinnias.

Paint Party Entry

is HERE.

Art Cards - on wheels

This is the second card I've made for Art Cards Challenge. At first, I didn't see the word: "auf" and did a card with a sewing machine that had wheels.

This one uses a buggy/pram stamp by Stampin' Up and is for a new baby's arrival.

PDCC and Rainbow Lady

This card was done for Rainbow Lady's Challenge (Island Paradise) and The Play Date Cafe Blog Challenge where the colors are watermelon, sorbet, and lime.

Stamps used were from Rubber Stampede, Great Impressions, and Azarti Earles. Part of this is decorative paper.

Apologies to all my Viewers

Stupid me. I didn't realize that by deleting the list of approved comments it would actually be deleting them from my blog. So I have inadvertently deleted the 1000 latest comments from my challenge blog. When I saw that I had 12,793 approved comments I thought that might be why my computer was getting slower.

So sorry. I love the comments. I won't delete any more. My trip to the dentist today evidently sucked some of my brains out!!!

Nature's Bounty - TIO

This tag is my entry for nature's bounty (TIO). The apple is my only fruit stamp (Rubber Stampede). I do have a tiny stamp of carrots, but it was too small for this.  My background paper is by Daisy D's.

Edit: I found I also had a stamp of berries so I have done another tag for the challenge. Sorry it is so simple but I have to rush off to a dental appointment this morning.

Tag Tuesday - A Face

I created Li'l Redhead when my red-haired granddaughter was just a child. My sister has a collection of the drawings, which she mentioned in an email this week. It reminded me that I haven't done a Li'l Redhead drawing in ages. So when I saw Tag Tuesday's theme is A Face, I decided to do her face on a tag.

TMTA - transparent

Here is my entry for this week's Think Monday Think ATCs. The background paper is some decorative paper I got from Michael's or JoAnn's. I stamped in brown ink the roses and then colored with pencils. Then I stamped onto acetate, the same roses but I cut off some from both sides. I attached with 2 tiny brads.

Take a Word - Song

In the heat of the summer with its hot weather and hot colors, I am looking forward to the cool fall weather. My card for TAW (Song) is called Autumn Leaves. The butterflies are fading. The leaves are colored red and gold. I used Tim Holtz's texture fade technique on this that I learned from Dinglefoot. The flower is from a package of white flowers from the bridal section of Michaels. I have colored it with Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonglow inks.
