Theme Thursday - Vintage

I liked Tuesday's Sketch Challenge design so much that I've used it rotated around a bit for this Vintage 4x4 I have done for Theme Thursday this week. My background is watercolor paper with various Moon Shadow mists on it. The crinkled paper that looks very purple in this scan (and really isn't that bright) is also Moon Glow products misted on. The lady is my great grandmother who died before I was born. In fact she died when my gmother was only around 6. Her sister married the widower and became the "mother" for two little girls and a little boy.

Tuesday Four in One 4x4 card

My 4x4 was made with four challenges in mind. I used a piece of background paper I had made with leaves pounded onto cardstock. Onto that I glued a circle of iridescent colors that I got by misting Moon Glow Shadow colors onto paper. The smaller circle is from some upholstery fabric. I added ribbons in two corners and then attached 5 buttons.

More Bandana Art

The bandana technique from SaWo challenge was so much fun that I decided that I would use  it again for a background to go with a western postcard.  I chose my favorite cowboy, Roy Rogers in the movie: In Old Caliente. I don't actually remember this movie, but I probably saw it.  My dad loved westerns and took us to the drive-in movies to see a cowboy show every Saturday night for years.

SaWo - Bandana

Today's challenge for Saturday's Workout is to make a bandana print. Here is mine. I used diluted Adirondack Stream color wash for my background. The stamps I used are from various companies: PSX, Back Street, All Night Media, and Westwater Enterprises (Trena Hegdahl, artist). This was such a fun technique that I can't wait to try it again. The technique is described here.

Theme Thursday - the sun

I have several fun stamps I got at the Dollar Store and this sun is one of them. I love to use this stamp at the nursing home when we do crafting every week. I think it has a happy look. The theme for Theme Thursday is "The Sun." I think of Greece as a sunny place so I used this travel brochure to add elements to my 3x5 skinny card.

Sketch Challenge

Here are my first efforts at following a pattern to make a card for Sketch Challenge. It was more difficult that I thought it would be.  The flamingos card has Moon Glow shadow mists and spritz glitz in the background. It's done on paper towel.

 

Arty Girlz - Blue and Orange

Arty Girlz has for its theme this week Blue and Orange. I had this piece of paper towel I have been covering part of my desk with. I noticed that it was a pretty, iridescent blue from all the oversprays from my Moon Glow misting. So I found a few of my clip art pieces that were orange or blue and added them to the ATC. I wanted to put a quote on it with a stamp so I could enter this in another challenge. Then I realized that all my quotes are clip art. The only word stamps I have are things like thinking of you, happy birthday, etc. So this is entered only in the Arty Girlz challenge.

Walnut ink background - Created by Hand

The theme for Created by Hand this week is to use a background made with walnut ink.
Here are 2 examples of the walnut ink background. I misted the watercolor paper with water, sprayed on walnut ink, sprinkled on some brown distress embossing powder and some gold embossing powder. On the 4x4 I used a flake gold. On the moo I used fine gold.

Gothic Arches - paper patchwork

Wow, this was a tough one for me! The challenge for gothic arches was to make our arch from patchwork made from paper by Cora's method. I tore up pieces of various papers and glued them helter-skelter to a piece of cardstock. Then I took some brick red acrylic paint and spread it all over. Supposedly, I could wipe it right off. However, my paint must have been too thick and it wouldn't rub off. I put the card under the water faucet and washed off much of the red paint. Bits and pieces from some travel brochures and a stamp from Stampin'Up finished off the 3x5 (Skinny) gothic arch.

Saturday's Workout - Glass

Here are two different "broken glass" examples. The dark one started as my Monday's entry to TMTA where the theme was Ophelia. I decided to use it and make it into the broken glass entry for the SaWo challenge. The light color 4x4 was done a little bit ago and a few of you may have seen it before. Both of these were done using UTEE. After several layers of UTEE, the pieces were put into the freezer to harden. When they were taken out, I gently bent the cards to crack the "glass." I coated the surface with ink to fill in the cracks and rubbed it off. The light colored example was done on heavier cardstock and really turned out better.

Theme Thursday - Pink

Theme Thursday challenge is to create an art piece that has pink in it. This is to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month (October). So we will all think pink with our entries.

My background is Moon Glow Glitz Spritz antique rose. The image is a transparency given to me by Judy, my friend in Illinois.

Years ago I started sending out hand drawn/painted greetings cards. Frances, one recipient of my cards, kept all of them and a year or so ago, she let me have the 4" stack of cards back to use on my blogs. So for Created by Hand, I am entering this thank you card that I made by hand.

This little girl is my own invention. I named her Li'l Redhead after my granddaughter, who has gorgeous red hair. I have made a number of cards using Li'l Redhead engaged in all sorts of childhood activities.

Numbers and Animals

This 4x4 meets requirements for 2 challenges this week: Crazy Amigo and Arty Girlz. Crazy Amigo has as its theme Animals and Arty Girlz has as its theme Numbers.

My background is paper towel sprayed and misted with alcohol inks. The kittens came from a magazine advertisement and the text is my handwriting.

Gothic Arches - Haute Couture

Sunday Gothic Arches has as its theme this week Haute Couture. Here is my entry to this challenge. I have used gesso, Moon Glow antique rose pink glitz spritz and moon shadow phantom fuchsia, Stampendous kaleidoscope embossing powder. The arch and the flourishes were done in silver embossing powder.

Saturday Workout - Stamp Your Paint

For the Saturday Workout challenge this week we are using acrylic paint. Here are 2 views of my highly reflective 4x4 on which I have stamped yellow leaves using my hand-carved maple leaf stamp. The background is matboard with various lumiere paints and Moon shadow mists. For those of you too young to know this, the words are from the song: Autumn Leaves from the 50s.

Theme Thursday Purple 4x4

This week's challenge for Theme Thursday is to do a 4x4 using the color purple. I put PearlEx Misty Lavender and Interference Blue and Perfect Pearls Interference Violet into little spray bottles, added hot water and sprayed them one at a time on heavy cardstock, drying each before adding another one. I used my allium stamp (I think it's Stampin' Up) and Le Plume II colors pale violet and leaf green. The woman and the flowers are from a magazine. The quote is from Alice Walker's "The Color Purple." The full quote is (minus one word): "I think it ---- God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."

Created by Hand - house template

Using a Quietfire house template I made this ATC for the CBH challenge. The first thing that popped into my head was the saying that "home is where the heart is." I first stamped my card with Distress Fired Brick ink. The  top stamp is a Purple Onion design. The kissing couple stamp is a Hearts in Touch stamp. I sprayed this piece of photo paper with yellow and red alcohol inks and wrote in white pen.

Sunday Gothic Arches - turquoise

This ATC started out as digital and I printed it out on glossy photo paper. After this I put in the arch with a Sharpie gold marker and added a few pieces of paper collage. It's sort of a tribute to Strauss. I'm entering this in the Gothic Arches challenge for this week where the theme is turquoise.

Saturday Workout - Acetate

For the challenge that SaWo  presents this week, I have used a Graphics Fairy image of Thumbelina waving. A butterfly is pulling her along the water on a lily pad. An additional flourish representing more water reeds is stamped on acetate with StaZon and a Purple Onion stamp. This entry is a 4x4. The image is set onto a card stock that I have dabbed with Moon Glow Starburst stain of color purple. I oversprayed it with Moon Glow Shadow mist in blue-violet. This entry is also being shown in the Layers of Color challenge.

Theme Thursday - Road Trip

The theme for Theme Thursday this week is Road Trip. I have used a 4x4 which I gessoed and then dabbed with Moon Glow Starburst antique rose pink and canna lily burnt orange. A finishing touch for the background was an embossing with Stampendous Kaleidoscope powder.
