Theme Thursday - Lots of Color Skinny

Here is my very colorful skinny for the Theme Thursday challenge. And here is how I made it.

First, I took a 3x5 cardstock and colored purple, green, rose, and orange NuPastels on it. I knocked off the chalk dust and sprayed with hair spray.

Next, I used Moon Glow's Starburst colors of Ramblin' Rose, French Lilac, and Canna Lily Burnt Orange. These had dauber tops so I daubed with them. I also used Moon Glow's Glitz Spritz in Desert Moon Antique Rose.

Lastly I stamped in Archival Ink three of my handmade fun foam stamps. The gold sticker was a freebie. Hope this wasn't too much color! I think I like it better without the gold sticker.

Paper Minutes - Things that Fly

The theme for Paper Minutes is: something that flies.  My background for this skinny (3x5) started out as the back of a Christmas card. I used Starburst moonglow purple to make the purple bursts of color. For the green I dropped alcohol ink and blew air through a straw. There are other glimmer mists and washes on here as well. This is only one-half of the card. I made another 3x5 for another challenge, using a similar background.

Sunday Gothic Arches

For Gothic Arches this week we are to use 2 colors of the rainbow, 2 stamps, and one word of text. My background is glossy card stock. The blue and the green alcohol inks were sprayed onto a non-absorbent surface. Then I took the shiny card stock and laid it face down on the surface. I have used my new music background stamp, my bird stamp that Judy of Illinois sent me. Since it also has the word "fly" on it, I had all my requirements. The arch is the size of a skinny.

Crazy Amigo Doors

Doors welcome us into new surroundings or into our old familiar places. Here is my digital skinny (3x5) using our front door and some butterflies from Dover Publications. Crazy Amigo challenge is featuring doors this week.

Created by Hand Red - Pink

This skinny (3x5") was done for Created by Hand challenge, whose theme this week is red and/or pink. I wanted to use my watercolor of red tulips, but I couldn't figure how to fit it in. So I made it tiny and put a digital frame on in. The mother and daughter in the foreground are from Dover Publications.

Theme Thursday - Vintage Valentine

Vintage Valentine is the theme for Theme Thursday. My background image is one from Dover Publications. The foreground figure with the heart is from Graphics Fairy. This is a digital skinny (3" x 5").

Craft-a-way a Sunday Stripes

The theme for the Craft-a-way a Sunday this week is stripes. I have this lovely Miss Elizabeth's Leaves paper by Chartwell Inc that I wanted to use. It is color coordinated so all the papers in the packet go together. I thought this looked like autumn when the summer birds fly away and the winter birds begin to drift in. This is a 3x5" (Skinny) collage. The bird stamp is Hampton Art and was a gift from my friend Judy in Illinois.

Theme Thursday - the sun

I have several fun stamps I got at the Dollar Store and this sun is one of them. I love to use this stamp at the nursing home when we do crafting every week. I think it has a happy look. The theme for Theme Thursday is "The Sun." I think of Greece as a sunny place so I used this travel brochure to add elements to my 3x5 skinny card.

Gothic Arches - paper patchwork

Wow, this was a tough one for me! The challenge for gothic arches was to make our arch from patchwork made from paper by Cora's method. I tore up pieces of various papers and glued them helter-skelter to a piece of cardstock. Then I took some brick red acrylic paint and spread it all over. Supposedly, I could wipe it right off. However, my paint must have been too thick and it wouldn't rub off. I put the card under the water faucet and washed off much of the red paint. Bits and pieces from some travel brochures and a stamp from Stampin'Up finished off the 3x5 (Skinny) gothic arch.

Skinny Saturday - Hats

Today's challenge for Skinny Saturday is to use hats in our art. I have chosen for my Skinny (3" x 5") a background made with Moon Glow shadow mists and embossing with gold powder. The sweet lady is one of my ancestors. The text reads: "She walks in beauty like the night..." The image is a transfer using Sheer Heaven.

Hats is the theme for the Skinny Saturday and any kind of transfer is the theme for Saturday's Workout challenges. I have used a copy of one of my ancestor's photos and transferred it by using the Sheer Heaven ® and alcohol spray method. I love this method for images since it is virtually foolproof and quick. I haven't mastered it for text yet.

My background is a combination of various Moon Glow mists that I got from Lindy's. At the moment I am using these wonderful mica filled sprays a lot in my work. I love it for backgrounds. Please click on the above links to see other entries in these two challenges.  

SaWo Cut and Dried

Today's challenge for Saturday's Workout is to do some cutting and pasting. I have used an old watercolor that I did not like too much and cut it to a skinny size (3 x 5 ") for my background. That is cut #1. Then I used my handcut stamps of a bare tree and a maple leaf to make the foreground tree. Those are cuts #2 and #3. Then I cut out an image of a kissing couple on a park bench. That was cut #4. I hope I have understood this challenge well enough. Check out the other posts for Saturday's Workout.

Created by Hand - Patterns

The challenge for today is to use a pattern in our art work. Here is a patterned background I have made using an advertising post card as the substrate for my Skinny (3" x 5" card). The background is made up of Luminiere paints and fabric paints mixed with Winsor and Newton's iridescent medium. The pattern is acrylic paints and fabric paints. Take a look at some of the other entries in the Created by Hand Challenge. 

Skinny Saturday Queen

I didn't do a lot of art for challenges this week. I had a rare visit from my sister who lives out of state. We had a really nice time together. She is the dulcimer making, dulcimer playing sister, not the paper crafts sister.

I am entering a new challenge today Skinny Saturday. A skinny is a piece of art measuring 3" x 5". The theme this week is Oh, to be Queen. My substrate is an advertising postcard I received in the mail, which I cut to size, covered with gesso, and sprayed with some wonderful Moon Shadow mists from Lindy's Stamp Gang. I used Buccaneer Bay Blue and Phantom Fuchsia. Stamps I used were my hand-cut crown, stamps from All Night Media and Hearts in Touch. Some were embossed with gold tinsel and clear stamp ink. The queen is stamped with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress ink.
