Gothic Arches

Gothic Arches this week has as its theme to use something by Lord Frederic Leighton in our arch. This painting by Lord Leighton was in the Flickr Free site. The background is part of an old postcard. I also used some of my tree brushes from Brusheezy. The name of the painting is Mary Sartoris

Saturday Surprise and One Stop

Once upon a time is the theme for Saurday Surprise, a challenge I haven't entered before. I thought of a time when dresses were sewn on a treadle machine and washed in big zinc washtubs. What an improvement it must have been to be able to use this new-fangled "celebrated home washer"!

One Stop Challenge has as its theme: newspaper, text, writing, so I am entering this in that challenge also.

My background is a combination of mists and sprays, home-made and bought. The sewing machine stamp is Stampin' Up. The other items came from Nancy Maxwell James in a random drawing which I won.

Happy Anniversary - Rainbow Lady

Cynthia and her DH are celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary today. My hearty congratulations to them are shown in this entry for the Rainbow Lady's Challenge Blog challenge.

The background is one I concocted last night with various sprays and mists, gesso, and more sprays. I think 2 images came from Dover. The man is from some photos I found in an antique store in Arkansas. You can use his photo in your own work if you like. Just go to this website.

This background can be found on my Adventures in Art blog.

The Three Muses Challenge - Fowl Play

The Three Muses Challenge this week is Fowl Play. I remembered that I had done a watercolor of a barn with mountains in the background and decided to use it as my base. The rooster came from Dover freebies. I had to digitally draw a post for the rooster to stand on.

Tag Tuesday - Paper Piecing

Here is my tag for Tag Tuesday. I have torn pieces from various magazine pages and stamped one of my clear bird stamps in various inks. Don't worry your heads trying to figure this tag out. There is no meaning associated with it. I was just trying to get a variety of colors in my torn papers.

Marvelous Moustaches

Here is my entry for Mixed Media Monday, where the theme is Marvelous Moustaches. I've used my dh's gggf, or thereabouts. He does have a marvelous beard and moustache.

ACF - Background

The gorgeous background supplied by Art Creations Friday looked like it contained a stone bridge over a stream through a woods. So using Photoshop Elements I enhanced the "bridge" and supplied my own front yard woods brush at the top. It needed some color so I put in the butterflies and the girl, who is walking on the stone bridge. I am aware that the girl and butterflies should be less defined, but I wanted them to stand out.

Faces - All White

This is my entry for two challenges: Colour Create, whose theme is All White, and Theme Thursday, whose theme is Faces.

The background is paper on which I added some spackling paste for texture. I found in my bag of goodies from the Arkansas antique store some white lace and flowers, which I used here. The stamp is from Hearts in Touch.

Long Ago and Far Away - the 3 Muses

The Three Muses' theme this week is Long Ago and Far Away. I chose this Roman scene from Dover freebies. The couple from around year 25 A. D. is also from Dover.

Stairs - Crazy Amigo Challenge

The theme for Crazy Amigo Challenge this week is: Stairs. I have used this photo from a magazine advertisement because I loved the way the stairs curve. I took photos of my friends and cut around them and placed them digitally in this gorgeous mansion.

Mothers and Daughters

After a vacation of almost 3 weeks, I am home and finally able to do some art other than digital.

Here is one of my favorite pictures taken a number of years ago of me with my daughter. She was in D. C. for professional reasons. My DH and I decided to join up with her there for a mini-vacation. We toured the capital city on her off hours and had a marvelous time.

The theme for Mixed Media Monday is mothers and daughters.

We're Home!!!

After a wonderful vacation in northern Arkansas, away from the hustle and bustle of life here in central Virginia, we have made it home safely. One of the delightful things about the trip was the many fine people that we met. Mike and Rita are owners of Angels Retreat on the White River. Their guest cottage that we rented was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Now I have discovered that Rita has her own personal blog, FlyFishing4Faith. Visit it and discover a bit about fishing and a bit about life.

This is a picture of me fishing in the Norfork River, just below the dam. Can you tell that it was cold?

When I get all the dirty clothes from the almost three-week-long trip clean again, I'll begin doing some challenges. Right now life is getting in the way of art.

Created by Hand - Harvest

The theme for Created by Hand is harvest. I thought of the watercolor I had done of a farm in the harvesttime. I used a copy of it and put an image of a depression woman and her children and a few extras.

TMTA - Autumn

Autumn is the theme this week of Think Monday Think ATCs. Here is my version, using a background furnished by Art Creations Friday some time ago.

Traditionally, an ATC is a 2.5" x 3.5" trading card with art on it instead of sports figures. It began as a traded-only piece of art. Today I was saddened to learn that here in Arkansas some ATCs are sold, not traded. I am wondering if this is a trend that is universal or if it is a local thing. I was told that some ATCs done in oils bring $20 per card. Does this upset anyone else besides me?

3 Muses - numerology

I am using this unusual and lovely background from an earlier arts creation friday challenge for this week's Three Muses' challenge, which is numerology. I have placed a picture of my mother in the foreground along with her date of birth.

TMTA- - Cities

The theme for TMTA is Cities.
