Mini Journal Watercolor Sketch

Rough times trying to work out the kinks in the new revised

Turbo Tax. I didn't have much time for painting this week so

here is a sketch I did in my mini journal. Ignore the strange hairdo.

I don't know why it turned out like that but we all have bad hair days.

This is another entry for Paint Party Friday.

Using pieces of a collage

Word Art Wednesday's scripture is Psalm 73:26.

My background started as a 8.5x11 card stock, which

I made into a collage with bits and pieces of items along

with some acrylic paints. I am also posting this for PPF.

This is actually 1/4 of the card stock. I cut it into 4 pieces

so that I can use the backgrounds for greetings cards.

Tag it On Challenge

This is my tag for Dragon's Dream - Tag it On,

using orange, purple, and a butterfly stamp.

I also used a Martha Stewart all around the page punch.

Finished Portrait

I added a bit to last week's entry for PPF.

I think this is an improvement.

I am posting this early because I am

in the process of getting a new computer.

Later in the week I will be trying to set

my new computer.  I will be visiting

all the wonderful PPF artists via my 

new computer.  I hope.

This is what I had last week.

Another Painted Face

I decided to try acrylics painting once more with the extender medium 

I bought today. I can see lots of things wrong with this, but I will keep 

plugging away till I catch on to this technique. I guess this is a WIP. 

This is also for the Paint Party Friday challenge just as my other entry.

Word Art Wednesday

This is my entry to Word Art Wednesday.

Painting a Face with Acrylic Paints

This is not a paint-by-number painting.

I looked at several different paintings of faces to see how

the shadows fall. Is that cheating? I don't know. I sure

didn't copy anybody's painting. This is done in Acrylic Paints.

I have got to learn how all those fine artists on Paint Party Friday

get their acrylic paintings to look as blended as oil paintings.

Anyway, this is my first and maybe last painting of the week.

It will be my entry for the 2/15 Paint Party Friday challenge.

Since that paragraph and this one, I remembered that I have several of

my late mother in law's drawing books. I raced (not really; my knee still hurts)

upstairs to the closet those books were in. I found a 1966 book entitled

Painting with Acrylics by José Gullérrez and Nicholas Roukes.

It is subtitled: How to paint with the revolutionary new plastic media: Acrylic, 

Polyvinyl Acetate, Vinylite, Vinyl Chloride, Ethyl Silicate, Lacquer.

Although in 1966 artists probably didn't have access to blending fluids,

I think I may be able to use the book to learn a few things about this medium.

I'm also entering this in Mandarin Orange Monday, a day late.

Tag it On

It has been months since I have made a tag so I am a bit out of practice.

Here is my entry for the Tag it On Challenge for this week, where the

theme is night, riverbank, driftwood, boats, and insect. For the background

I used a watercolor painting I had done some time ago. I googled "boat"

to find a boat for the scene. I added the boat to the background digitally

and then darken everything to simulate night. It's a bit hard to see the 

driftwood since it is dark. This was printed out on cardstock.

The real stamp I used is the tiny Inkadinkadoo dragonfly which is 

stamped in white Stampin' Up chalk ink - upper left.

Word Art Wednesday 2-6-13

The scripture for Word Art Wednesday is Proverbs 27:9:

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart and the 

pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.

The background for this piece is some pounded flower-decorated

watercolor paper I did a few years ago. Having it on my computer

makes it easy to create this colorful art for the challenge.

Painting for this Week

Here is my water-soluble oils version of Valerie's beautiful sky photo. 

Last week I showed my rough watercolor version. This is

a new medium for me. I'm learning.

Here is my acrylic paints version of Valerie's beautiful sky photo.

I found that painting in acrylic paints is not as easy as painting in oils.

The problem was not the fast drying; it was getting things to not look like "paint by numbers."

I'm not sure I succeeded but experience tells me to stop when it looks half way decent.

I may get to do more painting

this week. If not this is my entry for the Paint Party Friday.

Curiosity

The background is a painting of mine. Mama Elephant is 

from Dover Publications. Baby Elephant is from Pinterest.

Trees in Silhouette

Valerie allowed me to use one of her beautiful sky photos. 

My paints and watercolor paper are upstairs and my knee

still acts up if I climb stairs. So this rough watercolor was

done using my travel set. I plan to do this in acrylic paints

when I get a chance. Or maybe water soluble oil paints.

Word Art Wednesday (2 days late)

I'm late getting my Word Art Wednesday challenge posted. I am using a new painting and an old one.

Girl in Green is a new watercolor painting with the scripture digitally placed onto it.

Purple Mountain is another watercolor with scripture digitally placed on it.

This painting was done a couple of years ago.
