Painting for Friday, May 31

I probably should stick with faces, but I wanted to do this
old window with its shabby shutters. I think I went overboard
on the flowers in the window box. I have this scene that I did
in a watercolor class. It is better constructed but the colors aren't
as good. This is my entry to this week's Paint Party Friday challenge.

OK, so I just can't escape doing another face. I was watching/listening to
NCIS when this woman's face just appeared here in my journal so I decided
I'd do watercolor pencils on her. She looks like she knows a secret, but she
hasn't let me in on it.

Word Art Wednesday

Here is my entry for this week's Word Art Wednesday.
The scripture for this week is:

I originally made this collage using the inside of a business envelope,
some scraps of paper, map and rickrack, and a copy of one of my
paintings of my Li'l Redhead, who was fashioned after my granddaughter.
I digitally added the scripture.

Paper Minutes - Cats

This photo came from Pinterest from
Zöe Davis' pages. She has some wonderful
animal shots. I made this card for the challenge

Salt and Glue Background

These two backgrounds are made using watercolors (first step),
covered with Elmer's clear school glue (second step), and table
salt (third step). The first one had MUCH salt and so it has a real
texture. The second one  was lightly sprinkled. Both have sparkles
from the salt.  I learned this technique from my friend Shannon Tate.

Edit:  These were done on heavy card stock. I think using watercolor paper may be best. I have yet to try that.

Art Cards Challenge - Color on Color Emboss Resist

Here is my entry to Artekarten challenge  - Color on color emboss resist.
I used Stampin' Up ink pads:
Rose Romance
Bordering Blue
Pear Pizzazz
Baroque Burgundy

The colors "in person" really go together. This looks like they clash!!!

Friday's Art Works

The above is the art I showed a few weeks ago. Here I have applied a wet brush.

Here is a new watercolor pencil drawing I did this week and
below is where I have applied the wet brush.

Below is a little drawing I did last night. All these are

Word Art Wednesday - May 22

I made this watercolor pencil picture of a barn on Friday for another
challenge. I have changed the colors a bit, added a fence, and cropped
the painting. Now I have added scripture for Word Art Wednesday challenge.

Fun with ATCs - Recycle

Here is my ATC containing a piece of recycled kraft paper bag
(lower left) which has been crumpled and colored with a brown
dye pad. Under the flowers is a recycled ribbon. Sorry, I covered
it up. The background paper lace is a scrap from another project.
This is my entry for the Fun with ATCs challenge.

Art Cards - stamp kissing

Here is my entry for Art Cards Challenge, using stamp kissing technique.

Sketch with Watercolor Pencils

I will probably use water on this one later.
For now I want it to be just a sketch.

Different Painting for Me

This colorful piece started as scribbles and blotches of various colors. I tried to find shapes in this so I have shown the 3 steps I took to do this. I found a cat, a lion, a rabbit, my 3 initials, the girl, and other things.

(Edit)
I am adding one more alteration of the scribbles and blotches "painting".

And now this more realistic  sketch..
The barn is just  something I dreamed up.

But here below is a portion of another larger piece.

I've seen artists make forms and figures from abstract colors and shapes. So when I had finished a piece using gesso, green and blue sprays, glitter and such, I noticed that at the edge of the piece was this swoop of white mixed with the colors I had used. I decided that it looked like hair so here is my result using oil pastels. This is Lady with Green Hair.

I realize that this "art" is completely out of character for me, but it was fun to do something a little different this week.. This post is my painting for the week and my entry to Paint Party Friday.

Card for WAW May 15

Using the watercolor painting I did years ago, I made this
digital image for Word Art Wednesday. I am going to print
this out to send to a special friend who has an injury.

Pencils Again

Here is all I have done for drawing or painting this week.
I have been busy making Christmas cards for the church
bazaar for the fall, getting an early start. I am entering this

Edit:
Since I had no particular fondness for this  drawing, I decided
to risk ruining it by applying the wet brush to my watercolor
pencils. Here is the result. Interesting how it looks like she has a mask.
If I have time I'll try to remedy that.

Another Edit:

Word Art Wednesday - Prov. 31

Here is my entry for May 8 Word Art Wednesday challenge using
one of the most beloved scriptures. The woman in the photo is
one of my husband's ancestors. I just can't imagine feeding
chickens in a floor length skirt!

Word Art Wednesday - a recycled painting

I am using this old painting as the basis for my Word Art Wednesday challenge entry.
This is Stephanie, whom I tutored back in the early 70s. She was so spunky and so
full of life that I wanted to show that vitality in my oil painting. I have added this
week's scripture digitally.

Paint Party Friday Friends: I didn't have time to do any painting this week. If you do visit
and leave a comment I will return your visit unless you have Google Plus, which I can't
comment on. Just leave a link or email for me to comment on your works.
Sorry I just don't have time to visit all 100+ artists this time. I hope next week will be better.
