Happy Fourth of July

Wishing all the US folks a happy holiday. Some of you
will be getting a long weekend. I don't expect to do anything
special although in years past I have enjoyed band concerts
and the fireworks that followed.

My art life is in the pits. I only did a few doodles,
which I am showing below. Thanks, Eva and Kristin,
for making Paint Party Friday possible.

Journal Pages

With no classes this week I am pretty much artless,
except that I decided to work in my art journal.
Here are 3 spreads that I am posting for
hosted by the wonderful Eva and Kristin.

On the last one I used an old English Lit textbook pages
and glued them to the journal. The primary colored part
is painted deli paper.

A Rose

This was another artless week except for the little
bit of mixed media Saturday, which I will show
at another time, and this watercolor rose,
which I painted because I was feeling guilty
about my lack of art lately. I am posting this

My heart goes out to those affected by
the horrible high rise apartment fire.
I can't imagine how a building can go up
in flames so rapidly, trapping all those people.

Mixed Media Again

I'm still in the reading mood, not painting.
In our mixed media class we started painting backgrounds
for the Art Abandonment Project. I probably won't be leaving
my "art" anywhere for people to pick up but I did do the painting.

Here is what I painted for my background.

I then cut two pieces from this and glued them onto
some advertising cards I had gotten in the mail.
(see lower center and left of the above photo)

At home I added the scraps from magazines and gel pens and got
these 2 pieces of give-away art for the Art Abandonment Project.

Thanks to Eva and Kristin each week for providing
this platform for artists to show their works at

Journal Pages

Since watercolor class doesn't resume til July,
I have been working with acrylic paints in my journal.
"This world is but a canvas to our imagination." Henry David Thoreau
I finished up this spread from last week, adding stronger colors and captions.
This was what I did in mixed media class Saturday.
"The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection." Michelangelo
Thanks to the hard work of Kristin and Eva we can
share our work each week on Paint Party Friday.

Good News!

First off, let me thank all the kind people who offered me
their sage advice in dealing with a different kind of diet.
I tried the delicious recipes, ate lots of salads, went red meatless
and dairy free for two weeks, lost about 4 pounds, and feel better.
The good news is that the blood test for Alpha-Gal allergy was
NEGATIVE.
I have no idea what the hives were caused from and I am
sure I did not imagine them. Red spots and itching/burning
really happened. The good thing is that I actually began
to enjoy eating lots of veggies and fruits and I hope
to continue doing that.  So thank you, dear friends.

I did not do much art this week and none last week.
I am in my reading mood, not painting mood.
Here is all I have to offer.

The start of a spread in my journal in mixed media class. We
began by doodling over both pages. Then I took off on my own
using my metallic gelatos. This doesn't show
up well because of the sheen of the gelatos.

Then Thursday night I did this watercolor painting of a lily.
The photo I used was taken by my niece and used with
her permission. Thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting
and giving us the opportunity to enjoy lots of art.

Life changing situation

I got bit by a Lone Star tick on April 1 and had much
redness and swelling the next day covering half of my chest.
After being misdiagnosed and having rashes, I read online about this
tick, I now believe I have the Alpha-Gal allergy (red meat allergy),
caused by the Lone Star tick. Not only meat, dairy products
also cause a delayed rash. Seeing an allergist on Monday for tests.

So, I know there are Vegans and Vegetarians out there. I've
read your blogs. Tell me where I can go out to eat and
what can I order. There are no vegan restaurants near me.
I have been eating out 2 or 3 times a week and don't like to cook.

OK, now to the art. I didn't have watercolor class so
I have been doing a few acrylics/mixed media things.
And I am including one phone doodle.
Thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting Paint Party Friday.

Let a smile be your umbrella.

I started with several shades of green for the background in
this class project. Next I added a magazine picture of a dress
and the word "FUN". The rest of the body was painted on. I used
stencils for the flowers and added bits of painted papers.
Doodle from a very long phone conversation.

Late Posting

I can't believe I totally forgot to post for Paint Party Friday.
Here it is already Friday afternoon. But in my
defense, I have not been sleeping very well and
one night this week I didn't get to sleep till after 6 a.m.
Too much chocolate in the evening, I think.

Anyway, here is my class project in Watercolors.

and here is a card I made for a couple who just got married.

The next card was made using a watercolor background.
I bought a stalk of flowers at Dollar Tree and took
each flower off and reassembled them to use
on greetings cards. I have some embossed gold
on here along with the watercolors.
