Paint Party Friday - April 25

These two sketches were done at the car dealership where I was

getting my car checked up. The top one is a man who was 

watching TV and was sketched on the opposite side of a 

crossword puzzle  I had done. The eye is just a sketch.

Here are some flowers some friends brought me and I arranged

them in a container I had. I miss flower arranging. I used to do

it a lot when I was in Garden Club.

This, of course, is nowhere near like the arrangement above.

I just used the real thing as a tool to get the flowers where

I wanted them to go. This was nothing but a big mess until

I added the pen marks. This is for  Paint Party Friday.

Tag Tuesday - Inspiration from Home

My entry hall flowers in the copper vase from Mexico is my inspiration for my tag for Tag Tuesday.

I used a watercolor paper I sprayed Moon Shadow mists on. I then rubbed Pearl Ex (copper) around the edges. Sorry the shine didn't come through on this photo (only on the blurry one!). The flower consists of a couple of Stampin' Up stamps and Stampin' Up die cuts, some of which I rubbed with an ink pad. I used a copper wire for the hanger to match the copper vase.

Snow!

Yes, we did get snow. Yes, we did have a power outage for 34 hours. We are back to normal and making art again. It is still beautiful, but very icy. We had a tree fall across the driveway and had to get someone to cut enough of it off for us to get the vehicle out. We got 11 inches, which is equal to what we have gotten totally for the last 5 years!

CBH- Patterned Paper & Wednesday Stamper

Here is yet one more Christmas-themed entry. This time it's for Created by Hand, whose challenge is for us to use patterned paper. Wednesday Stamper is an open theme. I took a picture with my camera instead of scanning this. After I embossed the stamped images in gold I used glitter glue and a very shiny finish on the tag/ornament.

Here is an ornament made with 8 circles, four of which are dark green card  stock that has a gold embossed tree in the center. The other 4 circles were cut from some beautiful double stamped paper I received from Susan in a swap from Art Techniques, a Yahoo group. 

My hat's off to those of you who managed this assignment with ease. I really struggled. The circles were all cut with my circle cutter and I still had trouble getting them to line up right. The resulting ornament looks pretty good. I would hang it on my tree. However, it will take a lot of practicing before I'd give mine to someone as a gift. First Grade Art

Long ago and far away back in the dark ages first graders were taught not only to read, write and do numbers they were also taught important skills such as sewing. One of the projects required of my class was to make by hand a doll and something else. Here is some of my first school artwork. I suspect I had a little help but most of the hand sewing on these lovely pieces was done by a six year old.

Uncle Robert and Leslie

This greetings card is made up of an alcohol ink/magazine page background. The reversed image in the foreground is a transfer I made of a photo - vintage 1930. My Uncle Robert is standing in front of his car, parked by the old home place's porch. He is holding his baby brother Leslie. Just a few years later Robert got to travel. He was in the U. S. Navy stationed on Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco Bay during World War II. Leslie didn't travel much as he died at age 13, but he was a very unusual young man. Leslie had many talents including building a crystal radio from scratch. I also remember that he could play the Jew's Harp and do puzzles. He was a hard worker and assisted his parents in maintaining their stall at the Farmer's Market on weekends. Here is the picture I did the transfer from.
