I found this old woman in a magazine and changed her up a bit for
my work with colored pencils this week. She's not meant to be a
beauty. She looks like she's had a hard life, to me.
Here is how my girl from last week ended up. The first half of the artists
who commented liked the dark background. The second half of the artists
like the light background. I was able to wipe off most of the dark because
that was watercolor. So I am replacing it with a dark gray, not as dark as
the almost black of last week. Also, by cropping it, she is no longer floating.

This woman carries a wonderful and deep presence...she intrigues me..your pencil work is magnificent..not only do i love the expression in her face and eyes..but love the earrings and necklace..everything about her is intriguing to me..she looks as though she carries a lot of stories and wisdom! and the second girl..I already love her..her fleshtones really are beautiful and the strokes and soft lines are wonderful..awesome!I also love the dark grey..what a wonderful slate color...it gives it a vintage-y feel..and adds more depth..fabulous!

Yes, it does look a lot better when it's not so dark! The first woman looks like an old Indian woman. I think she's beautiful!

ReplyDeleteFaye, that old woman has so much character and personality. To me she also looks Asian. Yes, she certainly had a hard life. I like her a lot - she looks like she has a lot of wisdom, if we would only let her share it.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing what cropping can do? I am a big fan of cropping in order to change composition and ground an image- as you did. The Indian woman seems to have a story... one worthy of listening to....

I did a sketch last night and time I was finished it ended up a older boy. I was wanting a child like how I entered my little child in my blog yesterday . I know if one does too dark it can realy change things. Especially when I do a child. Lighter features for a small child like 2 . I am learning. My hubby seems to be my critic. Ha,ha. May be worse. Just one light change can turn a picture into an older one. Only you made it be that way was excellent!
