This greetings card is made up of an alcohol ink/magazine page background. The reversed image in the foreground is a transfer I made of a photo - vintage 1930. My Uncle Robert is standing in front of his car, parked by the old home place's porch. He is holding his baby brother Leslie. Just a few years later Robert got to travel. He was in the U. S. Navy stationed on Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco Bay during World War II. Leslie didn't travel much as he died at age 13, but he was a very unusual young man. Leslie had many talents including building a crystal radio from scratch. I also remember that he could play the Jew's Harp and do puzzles. He was a hard worker and assisted his parents in maintaining their stall at the Farmer's Market on weekends.

I forgot to say that the swing on the porch was really a combination swing and cradle. Grandma would put both sides down, pad the cradle with blankets and place the baby inside to swing in the breezes. When she wanted to sit in the swing, she merely lifted one of the sides and placed it on top of the other side, forming a swing with a back. Very well designed.
