I don't think this week's watercolor class piece turned out too well.
The lesson centered around using salt on the colorful trees.
This is a hayfield with round bales, spring budding trees, and a field
I thought as a painting it needed something in the lower left
corner, so I added the rise and the grasses (not in the original photo.)
Then some things I did at home just for fun...
and finally I tried to improve the young lady I had painted
and posted previously. She looks closer to the photo,
but she looks even older, I think. However, I now have
found a great video on drawing faces for different ages.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it frustrating when you put in a lot of effort and you're not happy with the result? I'm having similar issues with my latest painting. Yours has a great composition and some lovely texture in it. The only thing can think of that you might like to play with to improve it is upping the contrast a little? See if you can get more darks in there - hard with watercolour and I'm a complete novice in that department, but that is the only thing I can think of that might help. Looks fabulous in any case.

ReplyDeleteWhen a piece is not going in the direction I like I often put it down for a while and then try again. I often like it. Your paintings are lovely but you are the artist and know how you would like it to look. Have a lovely week.

You watercolors are lovely. I've found the medium to be exceptionally challenging, especially when doing representational work, so I honor your skill!
ReplyDeleteAnd as Irene suggested, setting a work aside for a while and then returning to it can often offer the missing inspiration to take it to a better place. :)
