Paint Party Friday

Last week for Paint Party Friday I showed a pencil sketch that I did based loosely on an image I got from an email. I decided to do the coloring in pencils. I have some very ordinary pencils, not the fancy things I see in some posts. Anyway, I am showing what I have done. I may just leave it at this point or I may darken some areas. I could use the paper stump to smooth out skin and apples. I'm open to suggestions.

Next I am showing a couple of pages from my journal friend Laura gave me for my birthday last fall. The journal is based on the sayings of Jesus. These are taken from the beatitudes. The one on the left (Matthew 5:3) says: Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The one on the right (Matthew 5:4) says: Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. A closeup of the one on the right is shown below this. Click on photo to see enlarged version.

  14. I like the way you did the colored pencils, they have a nice pastel look to them. And of course, the girl is charming and I love her expression. I find it best to layer colored pencils, using a light touch till the last layer, then pressing firmly. I love the book you were given -- such a wonderful idea!

Thank you for you kind words at my blog! My daughter surely appreciates my work, but it is not a painting that I made for her explicitly, I made it for my own enjoyment!

  30. Lovely drawings, Faye! I love the expression on the little girl's face. I don't think I'd try to smooth the pencil marks. I like seeing them.

  32. Beautiful portraits. So soulful.

  33. The portraits show different facets of emotion. I enjoy seeing them. I use the 'stick' on most of my drawings, but not usually on colors. You could make an apple on separate paper to see if you might like it better that way, then choose. Blessings, Janet PPF
